TOPIC: MAKING ADD WORK: JOB-KEEPING SKILLS FOR ADULTS WITH ADD
PRESENTER: Blythe Grossberg, PsyD, organizational psychologist;
author, Making ADD Work: On-the-Job Skills for Coping
With Attention Deficit Disorder (Perigree, 2005)
Blythe Grossberg, PhD
ADD and employment is a topic that just won't quit. In this presentation,
we looked at a host of work-related demands: the need to track papers and
appointments; the need to finish projects -- on time; the need to
communicate with co-workers and clients. Possibilities for self-help here
will be our first order of business.
Then we discussed: how can we find careers that fit our talents? Are some
work environments better than others? And what can we learn from ADD
adults who persist and prosper?
Psychologist Blythe Grossberg lead the discussion. Early on, Grossberg
wrote for magazines and travel guides. Shifting gears, she then earned a
doctorate in organizational psychology from Rutgers, where she also worked
as a career counselor. Dr. Grossberg continued with this through Resumé
Deli (http://www.resumedeli.com),
a Manhattan-based career-services one-stop shop.
These efforts connected her with ADD adults from different walks of life
-- and work -- including CEOs and entrepreneurs. In turn, these contacts
inspired the above-mentioned book ((http://us.penguingroup.com/nf/Book/BookDisplay/0,,0_0399531998,00.html)),
just published in paperback. |
